About Dr. Burton
While at Memorial University of Newfoundland (St. John's 1980-84) and scuba diving, Dr. Burton
experienced lower
back pain. Unable to find relief,
he visited a chiropractor and became one of the millions of Canadians
who discover one of the most effective approaches to lower back pain. And
then, he became
a doctor of chiropractic.
Dr. Burton has been in practice for 21 years, graduating from the Canadian
Memorial Chiropractic College (Toronto 1985-1989). There he received
six awards or scholarships, including the prestigious Canadian Chiropractic Association's
(CCA) President's award (1988) given to one intern in Canada annually for academic accomplishment, clinical competency, and volunteer service inside and
outside the school. Dr. Burton's most recent peer acknowledgement was an Award of
Achievement from the Newfoundland and Labrador Chiropractic Association (NLCA) in 2003,
in recognition for attaining the advanced designation as a
rehabilitation specialist.
In addition to Canadian examinations, Dr. Burton has passed
American examinations which regulates and permits practice in the
United States and many countries internationally. Dr. Burton is an active member of the CCA, NLCA, and Newfoundland and Labrador
Chiropractic Board (NLCB). Dr. Burton is a past director of the NLCA
(10 years).
Dr. Burton is internationally trained, certified and accredited (USA and Canada).
He spent a summer at an Italian back pain Institute during his education. He travelled thirty-four trips to locations such as Toronto, Boston and Tampa for specialist
requirements from 1995 to 2003. He earned the distinction of being a Fellow of the College of
Chiropractic Rehabilitation Sciences (Canada), displayed as FCCRS(C),
and has fulfilled American requirements earning the distinction
of being called a Diplomate of the American Chiropractic Rehabilitation Board,
displayed as DACRB.
Dr. Burton was given the honor to be part of a major panel
which published
Guidelines for the Treatment of Adult Neck Pain for
chiropractors (2006).
Dr. Burton remains on top of current research, evidenced by
publishing in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics
(JMPT 2005) and the
Journal of the Canadian Chiropractic Association (JCCA
2008).
Publishing, attending scientific symposiums, teaching, and learning new and advanced
topics are some of the requirements required
for specialists.
Dr. Burton continues to pursue knowledge; he completed of a
Science degree, major in Biology minor in Biochemistry in May, 2005
and is
currently working on a Masters in Education.
